"It is better to have less thunder in the mouth and more lightning in the hand." - Native American Proverb
In my brief 23 years, I have taken note of many reasons it is best to maintain a level of humility in life. When we stay within a place of modest behavior we are less likely to make enemies and more likely to make friends. No one likes being around a show-off or know-it-all who always makes it their goal to be better than everyone else. Always strive to be the best you can be but be mindful of your ego; as it grows so does the space between you and other people. If you really want to impress others then remain soft spoken and be confident in your abilities. Imagine how much more impactful you'll be when you take others by surprise. An air of modesty is also important for if you fail, as it will leave you vulnerable to the ridicule of others for being so full of yourself and then coming up short.
There's also a good chance that President Teddy Roosevelt's quote, "speak softly and carry a big stick", originated from this Native American proverb.
It's important for us to think and act on a positive, loving vibration. Positive-minded individuals are often inspired to express their advice and wisdom through a clever statement. These positive quotes are often brilliant and deserve some reflection on their meaning.
