About a week ago I started feeling confused and disorganized in everything I did. I would trip, fumble, easily become confused by something seemingly trivial and I had no idea what was going on. Luckily Rachel, my girlfriend, was able to identify what was happening to me. It was because of the vibrations of one stone I had chosen to carry in my pocket for far too long, Tiger's Eye.
Why I Carry Stones
I carry stones in my pocket for quite a few reasons, but I do this primarily because I become more empathic the more disciplined I am with my meditation. Empaths are considered to have slightly stronger psychic connections than others and this is what allows us to actually feel the emotions of others. Both Rachel and I carry stones because they help to remind us to remain secure within our own energy fields. The vibrational qualities of the stones we carry help us to remain grounded and focused when bombarded by lots of foreign energy sources.
What is an Empath?
First of all, everyone is a little empathic to some degree; there are just some people who are more empathically inclined like Rachel and I through constant meditation. Think of empaths as emotional sponges, they subconsciously absorb snippets of energy from other people simply by being nearby. This can be very taxing for the empath and it can be difficult to brush off the negativity that we absorb through the auras of others. Rachel is highly empathic, far more than I am, and must remain vigilant in keeping other people's negative energy from invading her aura. There are times where she's been so overwhelmed that we need to leave wherever we are and find a less populated area so she can recuperate. Being empathic is also a blessing in disguise. Empathic abilities make it a lot easier to tell if someone is being deceitful or flat out lying. Empaths have an easier time identifying the emotional state of others so that they can offer the right kind of nurturing for those in distress. Being empathic can also help with finding the source of discomfort or dis-ease in an individual.
The Properties of Tiger's Eye
Tiger's Eye is a great stone to have in your collection. It's common, relatively inexpensive and carries properties that can improve your perception, willpower, protection, clear thinking, courage, grace and is very grounding. This stone sounds like a total boon to whoever uses it, but these positive effects can become overwhelming. Tiger's Eye is a stone that must be used topically and never for extended periods of time and I made the mistake of leaving it in my pocket for too long. Since I'm empathic my aura is more easily influenced by the effects of stones; and since Tiger's Eye can be a potent stone it had a potent effect on me.
How I was Affected
I originally put Tiger's Eye in my pocket for grounding purposes, since my Root and Sacral chakras seem to need more attention than the others. The first couple days were fine, I felt great and a lot more grounded than usual. Things were going exactly as expected, but after a few more days went by I began noticing strange changes in my behavior. I started losing my balance for absolutely no reason, I would randomly fall backward and trip over my own feet. I had difficulty focusing on tasks at work and school, it was hard to think straight and search for the right words. I became slightly introverted and antisocial, feeling closed off and a little cowardly around other people. I had no idea what was happening to me and at the time I had no idea that Tiger's Eye could have these negative effects after prolonged use. My state of dis-ease reached critical mass when I woke up with a THROBBING headache on the morning of May 1st. This headache stuck with me for nearly half of the day and wouldn't subside even after I took some Ibuprofen. I try my best not to take any Advil or Ibuprofen, but the headache was so intense that I couldn't even think. On top of that, I had nausea lingering in my gut and a little bit of heartburn kicking in. I had to call in someone to cover me at work and head home, I was just crashing and burning on a physical, psychological and energetic level.
Luckily for me, Rachel had the day off from work and was able to counsel me on her knowledge of stones. She's far more sensitive to crystal and stone energy, so it's become a strong interest of hers simply by her empathic nature. Once I removed the stone from my pocket collection I felt much better and I was able to return to center. This all happened just yesterday and today I feel like a million bucks now that the Tiger's Eye isn't in my pocket. It served its purpose well when I initially needed it and I'll be more mindful when I use it again in the future.
I took other options into consideration, like a stomach bug or coming down with a fever - but nothing was adding up. That's when I turned to a metaphysical explanation and thus found the answer I needed. Everyone is a little empathic to some degree and pocket stones can be a great ally for nearly anyone. But as you can see, pocket stones are especially useful to the wellbeing of empaths. Just be sure to do some research on the metaphysical effects of what stones you're carrying. Tiger's Eye is a powerful stone to have with many wonderful uses, just be sure to use it as it is needed and not for extended periods of time if you're sensitive to crystal energy.
I know I certainly learned my lesson from this accidental social experiment and will do research before adding to my pocket collection, lol.
My online journal will be the place to find any important announcements, bursts of artistic expression, random news articles I find and anything else that may drift into my mind.
